'The Commander business was established nearly 20 years ago to market, sell, rent and support a range of business telephone systems under the Commander brand to Australian businesses.

The business was acquired in 1998 by Commander Australia Limited (previously PlesTel Limited), a wholly owned subsidiary of Commander Communications Limited. Since the acquisition from Telstra, Commander has broadened its activities and now provides business telephone systems and data network equipment to its customers, bundled together with advisory, maintenance and financing services. Commander solutions have evolved from traditional key telephone systems to now include a full range of data, Internet, voice and now network products and services.

Commander supports its customer base through a national network of sales and service centres, coordinated and serviced by regional call centres and remote diagnostic capabilities. Commander is the leading brand for SME communications systems. Commander 's customer base includes more than 60,000 businesses with an estimated one million individual users of its business telephone systems.
