Milan Mandaric has spoken of his frustration after Eric Djemba-Djemba elected to join Aston Villa and not Portsmouth.
Portsmouth had a bid for the player accepted by Manchester United but did not get as far as to discuss personal terms.
The player claimed he was prepared to fight for his place at Old Trafford but has since changed his mind to ink a deal at Villa.
''It makes you weary and angry,'' Mandaric told the club's official website.
''We made a very good offer to Manchester United and they accepted which made us very hopeful of concluding a deal.
''We can't have done more than we did to bring his kind of quality here but it was fair enough when he opted to stay and fight for his place.
''Now I hear he is on his way to Aston Villa and that angers me. It is very frustrating.''
Meanwhile, the club have given up in their pursuit of Dmitri Bulykin after completing the signature of Alexsandra Rodic.
