Who is Scotland's best striker of all time?

Bernard set for Saints

by Alex Dunn -  created on 31 Jan 2005

Newcastle full back Olivier Bernard looks set to complete a £400,000 move to Southampton.

Bernard is currently in talks with Saints boss Harry Redknapp and appears likely to add his qualities to the club's fight to beat the drop.

The talented Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and had resigned himself to a periphery role at Newcastle for the remainder of the season.

Toon boss Graeme Souness signed Celestine Babayaro having grown disillusioned with Bernard's reluctance to ink a new contract.

However, it would now appear that Bernard is ready to move to the South Coast in a bid to rejuvenate his career.

Birmingham and Celtic were all cited as potential suitors but it now appears that Southampton are in pole position to secure his signature.
