West Brom have ended the loan deal of Atletico Madrid's Cosmin Contra.
The Romanian international joined The Baggies on a season-long loan during the August transfer window.
Contra has struggled to establish himself at the Hawthorns making just six appearances this season with his last coming against Liverpool on Boxing Day.
Baggies boss Bryan Robson is happy to let Contra return to Atletico feeling he has enough cover available following the arrival of Kieran Richardson from Manchester United.
"I look at the balance of our squad and, with (Kieran) Richardson coming in and Koumas here as well, I didn't think there was any necessity to keep Contra," said Robson.
"He's got international aspirations and needs to play first team football and I couldn't guarantee him that."
Meanwhile, Robson remains hopeful of sealing a deal for Burnley midfielder Richard Chaplow.
Albion have had two bids rejected for Chaplow, but Robson believes a deal is finally close to being agreed.
"Negotiations are ongoing and we are very close to a deal at the moment," added Robson.
"I've spoken to our chairman again today and he will be speaking to the Burnley chairman.
"I am hopeful something will happen before the deadline today. I am more optimistic than before."
