Who is Scotland's best striker of all time?

Moore leaves Millers

by Simon Fudge -  created on 31 Jan 2005

Ronnie Moore has stepped down as Rotherham United manager after more than seven years in charge at Millmoor.

Moore leaves the Championship's bottom club after failing to agree to a contract extension with Millers chairman Peter Ruchniewicz last week.

The news will not come as a surprise, as Moore was due to leave his post at the end of the season following the collapse of contract talks.

The news brings an end to the Moore era at the South Yorkshire club that started when he was appointed manager in May 1997.

Upon his departure, Moore expressed how difficult it was to walk away from The Millers.

"It was always going to be an enormous wrench leaving Rotherham United - a club where I have achieved so much success, both as a player and a manager," Moore told the club's official website.

"The Millers will always have a place in my heart.

"I agree, however, that it is in the best interests of the club to make a change now.

"The club has a good set of lads and I wish them well in the fight against relegation which they are more than capable of avoiding.

"The new board have got a tough task ahead and I wish them and all the club's supporters, who have shown me such loyalty over the years, the very best of luck for the future."

No news on a caretaker has been announced, with the club 12 points adrift of safety in the Championship relegation zone.
