Who is Scotland's best striker of all time?

Saints sign Camara

by Alex Livie -  created on 31 Jan 2005

Southampton have completed the loan capture of Henri Camara from Wolves.

Camara had been in the middle of a similar spell at Celtic, but he opted to end his stint with The Bhoys when being informed of interest from The Premiership.

Wolves were initially reluctant to allow Camara to end his spell with Celtic and head to the South Coast, but Saints were able to smooth the deal with a six-figure compensation package.

"After lengthy discussions with Celtic over the last couple of days it was obvious they were keen to cut their losses with Camara," Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey told the club's website.

"Although we had said we would not allow the player to go on loan anywhere else, we decided it was in our best interests to let him move to a Premiership club where he will be in the shop window.

"This arrangement has the double benefit of bringing in some additional finance and raising the profile of the player for a possible sale in the summer."

Wolves had hoped to take Brett Ormerod in part exchange, but the striker was reluctant to leave The Premiership and opted to stay at St Mary's - which forced Saints to up their loan package.

Celtic are hoping to offset the loss of Camara with the capture of Craig Bellamy, with the striker currently in talks about a move from Newcastle.
