Company History

Accidentally founded in 1995 by a distracted 22-year-old pre-med student, Hard Candy has since evolved into a trend-setting leader within the cosmetic industry, creating innovative products that reflect an ultra-hip image inspired by music, fashion and street style.
It all began on a whim - one random afternoon a custom nail polish was mixed to match a pair of strappy blue sandals. The perfect baby blue shade, Sky, was created. After a multitude of compliments on the unusual polish, it was clear that the masses were ready for Hard Candy.
The infamous nail polish was initially sold at exclusive boutiques. The first shop to sell Hard Candy was one of Los Angeles' most prestigious retailers, Fred Segal. Upon the arrival of the four sample bottles: SKY (baby blue), SUNSHINE (yellow), MINT (pastel green) and VIOLET (lavender) a young customer caused a scene by demanding that her mother purchase the samples immediately. As a result, Hard Candy left Fred Segal with their first order for 200 bottles of nail polish.
Soon, orders were pouring in, and Hard Candy was on the fast track to success. Their growth was astonishing. Tired of working day and night just to fill requests, headquarters were finally established with a staff of professionals to take the company to the next level. The unconventional nail polish shades shook up a stagnant market and grabbed the attention of the world of fashion, beauty and celebrities.

Aside from the 60-plus nail polish shades Hard Candy has created over the years, they have also evolved into a full-fledged cosmetic company. Over 200 colors of nail, eye, lip, face and body products are now available. Top-selling products include Eye Shadow Quartets, Super Shine Glosses and Glitter Shadow Pencils.
