| Taking an Inward Turn-Coiling to Hit Take an inward turn at the plate to help you coil, gain strength in the swing of your bat, and to time slower pitches such as curveballs and changeups. To turn inward, tuck your shoulder, hip, knee, hands, or some comfortable combination of these four elements. When the pitcher shows you his hip pocket, show him yours by taking an inward turn. It can add 15-20 ft of distance to a hit! Reprinted with permission, from the book / video series, YOU CAN TEACH HITTING, by Dusty Baker with Jeff Mercer, and Marv Bittinger.
