On a recent trip to San Francisco, Jeff Huson got a start at first base against Giant right-hander Danny Darwin. There was some concern in Mariner circles as to why Edgar Martinez didn't make the start, since he would not be able to DH in the National League park. From this discussion the following Top Ten List was born:

Top Ten Reasons to start Jeff Huson over Edgar Martinez at 1B in NL parks:

1. Lou has given up on the season and sees no reason to get Edgar ready to play 1B in the World Series.

2. Edith was using her Lou Piniella voodoo doll.
3. Joey's Throws of Mystery.
4. Edgar's Eagle Hardware contract forbids it.
5. Lou didn't want to hurt David Segui's feelings.
6. Lou was saving Edgar to use as a pinch hitter rather than waste his bat in the lineup all night because that's what all smart NL managers do.
7. With ARod batting cleanup that would have required Edgar to bat 8th or something ridiculous like that so Lou decided to sit Edgar.
8. Jeff Huson is just like Edgar Martinez except for the slick haircut.
9. The fans in SF are just CRAZY over Jeff Huson!
10."He's a good kid who can swing the bat and catch the ball. He's got good sound fundamentals. He's the kind of player who can get out there and make something happen. He keeps people off base. He knows what he has to do and he comes through for us. We need to get him into the game more often."
