Lucent Technologies To Provide Sophisticated Digital Home Network Solutions in Korea Under a Government Program

FOR RELEASE MONDAY JANUARY 31, 2005

Lucent Worldwide Services team in Korea applies years of experience with complex integration work to growing home networking market

Seoul, Korea - Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced it has signed a contract with InChon Urban Development Corporation (IUDC), a Korean government construction agency, to supply home networking solutions for the Songdo Redevelopment project. This project plans to bring digital home networking capabilities to every new residential building in Songdo area.

Under the terms of the contract, Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS), a leading network integrator, will supply and install home networking systems such as residential gateways, security systems, switches, routers and electronic devices to help IUDC build "smart apartments."

These specialized buildings provide residents with instant access to security, home entertainment and information services and give them the ability to remotely control appliances via a broadband network using optical Fiber To The Home (FTTH). LWS will also provide IUDC with a comprehensive offering that includes deployment, maintenance, and professional services.

"LWS has extensive experience integrating complex communications networks. We were able to use this knowledge to bring broadband technology directly into the homes and every day lives of the residents of these new buildings", said Eugene Yoo, managing director of the LWS Korea team. "This flagship contract will open up more business opportunities for Lucent in the growing Asian home networking market".

Lucent Korea has established its credentials for addressing the home networking market by broadened its local alliances in the last few years. Lucent Korea began its foray into this market in Busan, Korea, when it signed a cooperation agreement with Yulim, a major regional construction company, in 2003 and later on signed a contract to build "smart apartments". It has also participated in the consortium formed by SK Telecom for providing households with "Digital Home Pilot Service". Recently, Lucent announced a partnership with D&S Technology, a company that has an expertise in security, for cooperation on the IUDC contract.
