FOR RELEASE THURSDAY JANUARY 27, 2005
MURRAY HILL, N.J. - Lucent Technologies today announced its inclusion in the 2005 list of the top 30 U.S. companies for executive women according to the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE). For the fourth year, participating companies were evaluated for the policies and practices that help female executives succeed. This is the first time Lucent has been included in this list.
The 2005 NAFE Top 30 companies span a wide range of industries including financial services, manufacturing and technology, but all demonstrate a number of consistent trends. They excel at succession planning programs that identify and groom high potential women; leadership training; mentoring and workplace flexibility programs that help women effectively balance work and family.
"At Lucent, we are committed to helping our employees advance," said Pam Kimmet, senior vice president for Human Resources at Lucent Technologies. "This open and supportive environment begins at the top of the company and can be felt at every level. Women continue to excel at Lucent and it's gratifying for the policies we have in place to be recognized by NAFE."
To apply for the NAFE list, companies must have at least two women on the Board of Directors. Participating companies then complete a comprehensive application that focuses on the number of women in senior ranks, as well as the company's programs and policies that support women's advancement.
The 2005 survey specifically focused on women occupying positions with "profit-and-loss" (P&L) responsibility. "Men still hold 90 percent of P&L positions at the largest U.S. corporations," said NAFE President Dr. Betty Spence. "At NAFE's Top 30 companies, those numbers triple, with women holding 30 percent of P&L jobs; at the Top 10, women hold 42 percent."
Selected companies will be recognized at the NAFE dinner on March 31, 2005, in New York City. The 2005 list is available online at: www.nafe.com/press_release_top30.shtml.
