VASHON ISLAND, WA, OCT. 21, 2004 - K2 Bike triathlete Heather Fuhr finished third in the Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Kona, Hawaii on Oct. 16.
Fuhr completed the ultra-distance, multi-sport race in 9:59:19. Fuhr, 36, completed the 2.4-mile swim in 1:01:18; the 112-mile bike in 5:44:12 and 26.2-mile run in 3:06:04. Her marathon time was the best of the day out of the women competitors. In the run, she was just one second slower than her 2003 marathon time, which was the 10th fastest of all time.
Lisa Bentley, who finished second overall, and Nina Kraft, who won the event, ran 3:06 respectively.
Fuhr rode her K2 Bike T:NINE triathlon bike in the race, which was designed to enable her to maintain an aerodynamic position for long distances, be lightweight and give her the edge she needs to best a field of the world?s top endurance athletes.
