Dock Worker Killed In Accident Second Death In Less Than A Week Feb 1, 2005 6:05 am US/Pacific LOS ANGELES (AP) A dock worker died and another was seriously injured in separate incidents at the Port of Los Angeles yesterday.
A port spokeswoman said Matt Petrasich was supervising a work crew unloading cargo aboard a ship when he died.
Petrasich's death was the second fatality at the large port in less than a week. Last Wednesday, a 52-year-old man died in a switching accident on Terminal Island after slipping under a Burlington Northern and Santa Fe cargo train. He was identified as Conce Campbell, and he died at the scene.
State and federal workplace safety officials are investigating the deaths.
In a separate incident yesterday, a foreman suffered serious leg injuries when a forklift struck him. He was treated and released at a hospital.
