SAStor14
SATA technology at its best
The SAStor14 is an economically priced 'Enterprise' quality, high performance RAID storage system that is designed specifically to use Serial ATA (SATA) disk drives.
The SAStor14 offers unparalleled flexibility to create large storage pools that can be easily accessed by multiple hosts each running their own independent applications.

The SAStor14 features include:- High capacity and density - up to 5 Tbytes per 3U chassis Four host Channels - two channels per controller; either Fiber Channel or Ultra 320 SCSI Single or Dual active controllers - each with 512, 1G or 2 Gb cache Up to 72,000 cached I/O's per second - approx. 40,000 per controller Up to 384 Mbytes/sec. throughput - RAID configuration dependant Any mix of 'Enterprise' SATA disks may be used - a variety of disks available Multiple concurrent RAID levels - supported levels 0, 1, 1+0, 3 and 5. Up to 256 separate LUNS may be mapped to the Hosts Dual pathing to a single LUN - uses both host channels per controller Electro-mechanical disk drive interlocks - safeguards disk removal Easy to use setup and management tool - WEB browser (HTML). 'Telnet' and Serial Port command line options. Front panel display - displays 'MAC' address for each controller as well as status information.

The SAStor14 can simultaneously support any combination of the following RAID levels on either whole disks or parts of a disk(s). RAID 0 Data Stripe - a single 'Stripe' spanning two or more physical disks to create one logical LUN (Volume). There is no parity checking or redundancy; so if a disk fails data is lost.
RAID 1 Mirror - Two identical copies of the data are written to two disks or parts of disks to safeguard against either disk failing. Data may be read from either disk.
RAID1+0 Mirror with stripe - A 'Stripe' is created across two or more physical disks and combined with another identical Stripe to form a 'Mirror' set.
RAID 3 Data stripe with parity - A data stripe is created across two or more disks or parts with an additional disk or part used for the parity.
RAID 5 Data stripe with distributed parity - Data and its parity are distributed across three or more disks or parts of a disk
RAID levels 1, 1+0,3 and 5 provide full redundancy against a disk failure. Click here for SAStor RAID tutorial.

The SAStor14 array controller is both powerful and versatile. - One, or two 'hot pluggable' array controllers may be fitted.
- Two full duplex host ports on each controller giving a combined throughput from cache of over 800 Mb/sec.
- Choice of either two 2 Gbit Fiber Channel or two SCSI Ultra 320 host ports.
- Combined 72,000 I/O's per sec - 36,000 per controller - from cache.
- Each may be fitted with 256, 512, 1024 or 2048 Mbytes of cache.
- Hardware created RAID levels 0, 1, 1+0 (10), 3 and 5.
- Simultaneous support for any mix of RAID level on either whole or parts of a disk or selection of disks.
- 'Dual Pathing' for high availability - any LUN (Volume) may be mapped via the two independent host channels on each controller.
- Any mix of SATA disk types (capacity or speed) is supported.
- Each controller supports up to 256 logical disks (LUN).
- Up to four loop IDs (AL_PA) can be assigned to each host channel.
- Each controller is completely independent of the other.

Free standing enclosures | Enclosure options for Desktop, Deskside (Tower) or Shelf mounting. | Maximum stacking height is three SAStor14 units. |
| 3U Rack mount enclosure | Designed to fit into a standard 19 inch equipment rack or cabinet using 3U (5¼") height space. | Requires two mains inputs per chassis. |
| Disk canisters | Fourteen removable 'hot swap' canisters each fitted with electro-mechanical interlocks to prevent unscheduled removal. | LED Indicators per canister 'Active' (Green - Top) 'Unlocked' (Green - Bottom) 'Fault' (Red - Centre) |
| Disk Drives | From two to fourteen, 1-inch 'Enterprise rated' Serial ATA (SATA) disk drives supplied in canisters for installation and configuration as required. | Different manufacturer and capacity SATA disks may be used concurrently in a SAStor14 chassis. |
| Power modules | Two separate, mutually redundant 'hot swap' current sharing modules provide power for the chassis. Each unit is independently capable of supporting a fully configured unit. | Each PSU has two standard IEC mains input sockets and two LED Indicators:- DC Power 'OK' (Green) AC Mains 'OK' (Yellow)
