PWA Indoors London - The Schroders London Boat Show 2005 (01/02/2005)

From the 14th to 16th January, the London Boat Show hosted the first stage of the 2005 PWA World Tour.

An indoor event with 25 wind machines, 3000 spectators and among the competitors, the young Yannick Anton who gives us below his impressions of his adventures in the London pool :

?When I got to London, I knew I had a fair chance of doing well, especially in the jumps, that?s where I excel, especially on starboard (when the wind comes from the right), as I?m goofy footed (right foot in front). I?d done really well in Bercy last year with the first push loop indoors, which electrified Bercy.

Here in London, the trials were easier as there were 4 places for 15 racers of the PWA. My jumps, among them a good push loop - the same one that I?d done in Bercy - were good which got me to the qualifying panel. Then we had three more days of jumps. The first day, my rating increased and I got through to the finals, where I took 2nd place, which was my best performance so far. Awesome! Then the 2nd day, maybe I didn?t go high enough when the level itself was getting even higher. But I finished 5th all the same. And on the third and last day, every one was really fighting hard to make it on that last session. The TV crews were there, the pressure was really on!

Out of 3 jumps, it was the best 2 that counted! Needless to say that there was no room for error. I scored some good points with a front loop one foot and two fairly average attempts at Air chachoo but which were good enough to get me 4th place.

Overall I took third place with a regular performance and good solid jumps.

I can?t wait for the next Bercy Indoor and its great public on 15th October next".

Yannick Anton
