Techno 293 One Design : official competition board for under 15s (19/11/2004)

Following the announcement that the Aloha would cease manufacture at the end of 2003, a series of test sessions have been held by the Federation Francaise de Voile and later by the IWA (International Windsurf Association), to select a new board for the under 15 age group. And it's the Techno 293 One Design that's been chosen, for its performance, strength and reasonable affordability. It has a 100% fit with the criteria laid down by the FF Voile and IWA.

1. Schools : The Techno 293 OD is a very stable board that's easy to learn for beginner windsurfers. Its thermoform composite construction gives it excellent knock-resistance.

2. Competition and race training for the under 12s : its forgiving and manoeuvrable hull design means it can be used in a very wide wind range and still be manageable for smaller sized riders using small sails.

3. Serious top level racing for the under 15s : the Techno 293 OD's shape has been developed from one of the formula boards from 2000. Almost three metres long, its double concave hull and thick stern rails give it excellent up and downwind performance. Its high quality fittings (mast foot rail with 5 options, retractable dagger board...) mean that young riders can max their fun whatever the conditions.

4. Heavy weight riders (adults and families) : its sizeable volume and its versatility make this a board for all sizes of rider and all riding styles. Can take up to 10m2 of sail and a 58cm fin.

5. Performance in 6 knots windspeed : with more than 200 litres of volume, narrower width than more recent Formula boards and almost 3 metres of length, it's an easy board to get and keep moving in lighter winds with excellent glide as a result. And its light weight is another factor in its favour. It's got good forward speed in very light winds and means competitions can start once there's at least 6 knots of wind.

6. Performance in 20 knot+ winds for light weight riders : its double concave gets it up to planing fast and gives great performance while staying forgiving and easy to control, even in strong wind. As soon as you're planing, upwind steering is all done on the fin. The widest foot position options give excellent control when you want to ride funboard style.

7. Beginner board : the Techno 293 OD is very easy to learn and many schools are already using them. It's good for learning to jibe and is an all round excellent learning board.

8. Price : With such quality equipment, the Techno 293 OD offers the best value for money all round.
