| Day one and two down and now, half way through a lay day, this years final has seen 3ft swell at Bocca Barranca and a nice 6-8ft, yet mellow swell at a secret spot just 40 minutes drive from the Fiesta Resort where all competitors are housed. |

Photographers catching the action | We are now 15-heats through the twenty heat 1st round and with a drop in the swell reported for Saturday and Sunday all competitors and contest officials get the chance to kick back in the pristine surrounding of the Fiesta Resort and sample the local sports activities such as white water rafting and jungle canopy tours that the area is so well known for. The high light of the two days of surfing would so far have to be the ?secret spot? that was surfed on Friday morning, after a 40minute drive over worse than average roads, thought impassable without 4WD, contest judge, ex-world champ and Baja local, Mike DOYLE showed how it?s done, maneuvering the rental van packed full of boards through deep mud, dirt and incline. Big, clean, 6-8ft left handers were on off at the ?secret spot? rally testing the guys with a difficult take-off zone that seemed to move with every wave. It was a cruizy take-off once found that moved pretty quickly all the guys going hard into their bottom turns and flying off the top or setting up for the nose ride. 15 heats done and it?s getting close to the business end of the contest. With 20 competitors in total the first round eliminates just 4 people. The Australian, French and US teams are looking fairly safe, at least 2 of he Costa Rican team members are also sure of elimination and the Japanese team needs to work hard to keep all its team members in the game. More news Monday afternoon. |
