Frontier Pharmaceutical, Inc. develops, manufactures and licenses topical anti-infective products utilizing chlorine dioxide (ClO2), one of the fastest and safest known antimicrobials. Frontier's patented DioxiCare® technology is incorporated in compounds for human and veterinary therapeutic purposes, and the expanded use of ClO2 for commercial disinfection.
The DioxiCare System was developed by Howard Alliger, founder of Frontier Pharmaceutical, Inc. Though Mr. Alliger did not discover chlorine dioxide (Sir Humphry Davy beat him to it in 1811), he was the first to patent a method of utilizing the compound for topical diseases and other "small-scale" applications. Prior to this, chlorine dioxide, which is a gas, was applied on a large scale for the treatment of municipal water supplies and paper pulp bleaching. Alliger opened the field of chlorine dioxide for personal use, the full potential of which is only now being realized.
In addition to its ClO2 products, Frontier discovered and is developing a new treatment for canker sores utilizing a different active ingredient. This novel therapy, called Aphthaid?, immediately stops the pain of canker sores while initiating healing. Aphthaid has Investigational New Drug (IND) status and has successfully completed Phase II of the FDA approval process.
