George Johnson writes five columns weekly for the Herald sports pages.
He has 26 years of experience in sports journalism, starting with the now-defunct Winnipeg Tribune, a weekly tabloid in Winnipeg, as well as the Manitoba Sports Scene, the Winnipeg Sun, the Edmonton Sun and the Calgary Sun.
He spent 15 years as the lead hockey writer at the Calgary Sun before joining the Herald in 2000. He has covered numerous Stanley Cup finals, Canada Cups, allstar games, a goodwill tour of Russia and Czechoslovakia, as well as the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and World Cup of soccer.
George has been a guest analyst on radio and has written for a variety of hockey publications. Johnson received the Dunlop Award as the top sportswriter in the Sun newspaper chain.
Born in Regina in July 1957, Johnson is married to Rita, also a sportswriter, and they have daughters Michela, 12, and Sabrina, 8. George is a graduate of Westwood Collegiate, Winnipeg, and the Red River Community College, Winnipeg
