|  April 28 Construction started on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The bridge was first suggested in 1815 and was brought before Parliament four times until finally being approved. October 11 A new telephone trunk line was officially opened which made it possible to speak from Sydney to Brisbane for the first time. The line was 651 miles long and used 218 tonnes of copper wire costing 26,000 pound. November 24 Station 2SB broadcast the first Australian wireless programme. The programme featured classical and popular music, stock exchange and market reports, news items, a weather report, a women's fashion segment, and bedtime stories for children. |
