4) How is Bounty made?

We make Bounty from trees that are processed into pulpwood. Long fibers from softwood trees, such as pine and spruce, are used. After debarking, the pulpwood is turned into chips that are cooked. The natural "glue" that holds the fibers together is removed, leaving a fibrous pulp mixture. The pulp goes through cleaners and screens and is bleached to make it absorbent. The pulp then goes through a high-speed paper machine. A translucent substance called resin is added to the mixture to strengthen the paper when it is wet. The water is removed and the fibers bond to form sheets of paper. Two layers of paper are combined with a thin layer of adhesive and embossed to form many tiny air pockets that rapidly attract moisture. Diamond shapes are pressed into the paper to give it a quilted pattern that holds water. Designs made with water-based printing inks are added to some Bounty rolls. For additional information about the papermaking process, visit http://www.wipapercouncil.org/.

5) Is it okay to use Bounty paper towels to clean my plastic eyeglass lenses?

Most opticians do not recommend using paper products to clean plastic lenses. Paper comes from wood. Wood fibers, even though very soft, may damage sensitive plastics. Check with your optician to see what is recommended for cleaning your plastic lenses.

6) Is it okay to use Bounty paper towels in the microwave? Even printed towels?

For best results, we recommend you use Bounty Cooking for your microwave cooking needs. Please consult your microwave oven manual on how to properly use paper towels in the microwave. While it is safe to use a printed Bounty towel in the microwave, because they are not food-grade inks, we do not recommend printed Bounty for routine contact with food. Any paper product can burn if used improperly in microwave ovens.

7) Are Bounty paper towels made from recycled material?

No. Bounty paper towels are made from virgin wood pulp.

8) Can I use a Bounty paper towel as a coffee filter?

We haven't designed or tested Bounty for use as a coffee filter. Bounty's thickness and absorbency are very different from that of coffee-filter paper.

9) My bacon sticks to the paper towel when cooking in the microwave. How can I avoid this in the future?

When cooking in the microwave, paper towels absorb the grease produced by the bacon. If all of the grease is absorbed, the bacon will cook to the towel. For best results, use Bounty Cooking. Please consult your microwave oven manual on how to properly cook bacon in the microwave oven.

10) Why can't I find my favorite Bounty towel?

We offer lots of choices in Bounty towels because consumer preferences vary. Stores choose which versions they want to carry, so you might want to mention your interest to the store manager. Keep in mind that our printed towels are packed in mixed cases and retailers are not able to order a case of one particular pattern. It's also possible the one you like is temporarily sold out or is only available during a particular season. To see a full catalog of all the available Bounty prints, click here.

12) What is the advantage of using a Bounty paper towel rather than a sponge or a rag to avoid the spread of germs in my home?

Germs thrive in warm, wet environments, so the tools used to clean around the home, such as sponges, dishcloths, and cleaning rags, also may be their breeding grounds. Just one day after use, more than one billion germs can grow in a damp sponge. Bounty thoroughly cleans and then you throw the whole towel away, removing the potential breeding ground for germs. This helps avoid the spread of germs around your home.
