| Siemens to supply key technology for clean power generation in the U.S. – Total order volume more than USD405 million As the consortium leader the Siemens Power Generation (PG) group has been awarded a major contract to supply key equipment for a new coal-fired power station in West Virginia, USA. By using the most advanced technologies, with so-called ultra-supercritical steam conditions, the project will be one of the cleanest and most efficient coal-fired power plants in the U.S. Purchaser is Longview, Power LLC, a subsidiary of GenPower. The total consortium order volume is over USD1 billion, with the Siemens portion being over USD405 million. "Today, coal-generated electricity represents more than 50 percent of the generation capacity in the U.S. and 40 percent globally, and will continue to be an important fuel in the overall mix," said Randy Zwirn, president and CEO of Siemens Power Generation, Inc., and member of the PG Group Executive Management. "The Longview project demonstrates that coal-based generation utilizing highly efficient energy conversion technology and advanced emission controls can be compatible with the environment," Zwirn added. Ultra-supercritical steam conditions, at a steam temperature just below 600 degree Celsius and a high pressure of approximately 250 bar, enable high plant efficiencies. The scope of supply for Siemens PG comprises the turbine island design as well major turbine island equipment including an SST6-6000 steam turbine generator, an SPPA-T3000 plant control system and an advanced air quality control system. It reduces the emissions of particulates, sulfur dioxide, mercury, and sulfur trioxide. The boiler will be supplied by Foster Wheeler North America Corporation. As a consortia partner with Siemens, Aker Kvaerner Songer, Inc., will provide construction services and materials for the turbine island and boiler island. Site construction is scheduled to begin February 2007. Operation is slated for early 2011. The project of Longview Power, LLC represents one of the largest private investments in West Virginia. Longview will be a state of the art facility producing almost 700 MW of clean, coal-fired energy to the region. The Power Generation Group (PG) of Siemens AG is one of the premier companies in the international power generation sector. In fiscal 2006 (which ended September 30), Siemens PG posted sales amounting to more than EUR10 billion and received new orders totaling EUR12.5 billion. Group profit amounted to EUR782 million.
