   |  Mission
Founded in 1992, the mission of the MIC Foundation is to support environmental protection and sustainability, human rights and poverty alleviation throughout the Americas. We understand that long-term protection of the world's natural resources and fragile ecosystems requires an appreciation for environmental issues such as biodiversity, and that only vital, economically and socially thriving communities are in a strong position to protect their environment.
The objectives of the Foundation are: - To help educate the public in ecology and the importance of the environment;
- To support the development of civil society through coalition-building, human rights programs and poverty alleviation;
- To help alleviate poverty through educational programs for economically disadvantaged people in the areas of arts education, economic education and basic education and literacy.
A concrete example of how the MIC Foundation carries out these objectives is its grant to The Nature Conservancy to create a manual for coalition building for protected area conservation. This manual was published in 2005 and will undoubtedly prove to be a useful tool for the better international coordination of conservation efforts. Guide in English Guía en español Guidelines
Because the staff and material resources of the Foundation are limited, requests to be considered for support should be made briefly, in writing only.
Requests should describe your organization and the project for which you are seeking support, with a budget for both the organization and the project. Evaluation criteria, other funding sources and proof of your 501(c)(3) status should be submitted together with the name, address, email, telephone and facsimile numbers of a contact person at your organization.
MIC Foundation-supported programs are geographically limited to the Americas. The Foundation may give preference to programs where the corporation has a strong presence, or where there is an opportunity for employee volunteerism. Currently, programs with an environmental component are given priority.
For organizations in Europe and Africa, please visit the Mitsubishi Corporation Fund for Europe & Africa website. For Asia and Oceania, please visit the Corporate Citizenship section of the Mitsubishi Corporation website.
Grant Calendar
Requests for funding are accepted all year long. However, all grants are subject to approval at the annual board meeting, which is held every autumn. To be considered for approval, it is advisable to submit a request for funding no later than June of each year.
