Easing Separation Anxiety

My 3-year-old son has severe separation anxiety. He goes to a babysitter’s house two days a week so I can work; it’s been that way since he was 9 months old. The problem is that he gets anxious as soon as he wakes up, asking not to go. He gets so choked up and nervous that it breaks my heart. I've done everything the experts say to do: I keep a routine, make goodbyes short, pick him up at the promised time and talk positively about the sitter. Help!

House Rules

Now that my son is 4, we’re trying to teach some basic house rules, such as wiping his feet before he comes inside and saying “please” and “thank you” when requesting something.
