The skin is the organ of the human body that has the largest surface area and is the most versatile. It makes up approx. 20% of the total body weight and has a surface area of 1.5?1.8 m2.
In addition to providing protection against environmental influences, skin is involved in many different metabolic, storage and regulation processes. It is intimately connected to the rest of the body via the blood circulation as well as the lymphatic system and nerves.
The condition of the skin can vary considerably and depends on the region of the body, age, sex and the individual.
