What's New

Happy New Year!
First, we'd like to wish you a Happy 2007! We appreciate doing business with you in the past and look forward to working with you in the future.

Well, another year has started and we are all more mature than we were this time last year. It's time to focus on taking care of our skin. We are starting a new series of articles that will focus on one product a month. We'll start this month with Cleansers and follow on with other products in coming months. The article will discuss the benefits of using the product and compare the products so you can pick the best specific product for your skin.

Using the right products CAN make a difference. If you need help selecting products, you can try our Skin Type Test which will recommend specific products based on your answers to the questionnaire. If you still have questions you can contact us by email and we'll respond to your questions.

Cleansers
Your cleanser is the first step in a basic skincare routine. It should be used morning and night, every day. A cleanser gently dissolves surface dirt, removes makeup and conditions the skin. Soap is NOT the same, and in fact can be dehydrating to the surface of your skin. A cleanser is designed to dissolve the dirt rather than 'rubbing' it off. It should be applied to a damp face -- dampen your face, apply about a nickel sized dab of cleanser to your palms and rub them together then apply the cleanser to your face. Rinse well or better still, use a Cellulose Sponge (which has slight exfoliating properties) or a Chamois Cloth (if your skin is very sensitive or easily irritated) to remove the cleanser. Using a cloth or sponge also helps remove any residue.

Cleaner should be followed with the corresponding Toner.

The right cleanser effectively removes surface dirt without leaving your skin overly dry. If you have been using soap on your face your skin is probably dehydrated and it will take 2-4 weeks for you to adjust to using a cleanser. You should select the correct cleanser for your skin type.

Very Dry/Maturing

This skin type is usually very thin and easily irritated. It also shows many lines, often has flaky patches and feels dry and tight all over all day.

The best cleansers for this type of skin are the Arnica Cleanser which is a super-gentle and lightly foaming cleanser and the Hydrating Cleanser which is a gentle, rich creamy cleanser.

Dry/Maturing

This skin type is usually normal in thickness, seldom breaks out but feels dry, tight and uncomfortable after washing and without moisturizer is tight and possibly flaking most of the day. There may be occasional oiliness in the T-zone but only later in the day. Fine lines and wrinkles show up first around the eyes but may also appear on the forehead and around the mouth.

The best cleansers for this type of skin are the Arnica Cleanser which is a super-gentle and lightly foaming cleanser and the Hydrating Cleanser which is a gentle, rich creamy cleanser.

Normal to Dry

This skin type feels dry and tight immediately after washing but feels normal in 3-5 hours. Especially in colder weather, flakiness may appear and the sides of the face are usually drier than the T-zone. There may be some breakouts, particularly in the T-zone (nose, forehead and chin). In warmer weather this skin type may be considered 'normal'. Fine lines appear around the eyes, but less frequently around the mouth.

The best cleansers for this type of skin are the Arnica Cleanser which is a super-gentle and lightly foaming cleanser and the Soothing Cleanser which is a gentle, creamy lotion cleanser.

The AHA Cleanser can also be used, although it may be drying during colder weather so we recommend only using it two to three times a week.

Normal - Normal/Combination

This skin type is relatively 'normal' which means the skin on the sides of the face is slightly drier than the skin in the T-Zone. This type tends to be Normal/Dry in cold weather and Normal/Oily in warm weather. Adjusting your moisturizer to deal with the weather is very important but the right cleanser should work most of the year. This skin type will generally show signs of fine lines around the eyes but less frequently around the mouth. Breakouts can occur but usually are more frequent in the T-zone and there may be enlarged pores in the T-zone.

The best cleansers for this type of skin are the Arnica Cleanser which is a super-gentle and lightly foaming cleanser and the Balancing (more balancing) or Soothing Cleanser (more gentle) which are gentle, creamy lotion cleansers.

The AHA Cleanser can also be used, although it may be drying during colder weather so we recommend only using it once a day.

Normal to Oily

This skin type is relatively 'normal' but can tend to breakouts and shininess in the T-Zone. After washing, the skin feels normal within 3 hours but by mid-late day T-zone shine may be breaking through. Pores may be larger and skin may be slightly thicker. The advantage is fine lines are less likely to show up but blackheads can be a problem, especially if the wrong products are used.

The best cleansers for this type of skin are the Arnica Cleanser which is a super-gentle and lightly foaming cleanser and the Balancing (more balancing) or Foaming Cleanser (more oil controlling) which are gentle, liquid cleansers.

The AHA Cleanser can also be used, although it may be drying during colder weather so we recommend only using it once a day.

Oily

This skin type is thicker and tends to oiliness and shininess. Breakouts can be problematic and enlarged pores are often normal. Another problem tends to be breakthrough shine within 3-5 hours of washing and in warmer weather can be even more serious. Fine lines are less likely to show and skin remains more resilient as you mature but breakouts can be serious and can leave skin imperfections.

The best cleansers for this type of skin are the Arnica Cleanser which is a super-gentle and lightly foaming cleanser and the Foaming Cleanser (more gentle) or the Purifying Cleanser (more oil controlling) which are liquid cleansers.

The AHA Cleanser can also be used, although it may be drying during colder weather so we recommend only using it once a day.

Very Oily and/or Blemish Prone

This skin is usually very thick and is oily with shine breaking through within 3 hours of washing. While fine lines are not usually a problem, breakouts can be serious and can leave skin imperfections. Breakouts may tend to be more frequent than for other skin types and oily shine is often hard to deal with, especially in warmer weather.

The best cleansers for this type of skin are the Arnica Cleanser which is a super-gentle and lightly foaming cleanser and the Purifying Cleanser which is an oil controlling liquid cleanser.

The AHA Cleanser can also be used, although it may be drying during colder weather so we recommend only using it once a day.
