What is Symbian OSâ?¢?

Symbian OS is an advanced, scalable and flexible operating system designed from the ground up for mobile phones.  It is an â??openâ?? operating system, meaning Symbian OS APIs are made public to licensees.  This allows the licensee to see how the system works and customize it to fill particular needs.

Symbian OS user interfaces

Symbian OS smartphones have many different form factors and input mechanisms, and are intended for many different uses.  We manage these requirements by separating the user interface layer from the operating system. Symbian OS provides core frameworks and services, and the mobile phone manufacturer provides the right UI for their target customers. Symbian OS smartphones support four user interfaces â?? the FOMA SW platform, Series 60, Series 80 and UIQ. This fact sheet outlines each one and their different features. Download (0.09 Mb)
