Fujitsu uses Symbian OS for its latest videophone for NTT DoCoMoâ??s FOMA 3G service in Japan

London, United Kingdom â?? 10 July 2003 â?? Symbian Ltd. today announces that Fujitsu Limitedâ??s latest mobile videophone, the F2102V for NTT DoCoMo, Inc.â??s FOMA 3G service is based on Symbian OSâ?¢.

The new F2102V is Fujitsuâ??s successor to the F2051, which was launched in January 2003, also for NTT DoCoMoâ??s FOMA 3G service in Japan. Based on its experience of developing the F2051, Fujitsu has further optimised the performance of the F2102V and has enabled the following enhanced features:

  • Videophone capability using twin integrated digital CCD cameras, each equipped with auxiliary lights for video and photography in dim lighting conditions
  • Client authentication to enable enhanced network security when making mobile payments and other e-commerce transactions over the FOMA network
  • miniSD Memory Card storage capability
  • PC connectivity to allow for synchronisation and backup of calendar and contact information
  • Extended static stand-by time of approximately 310 hours (dynamic: approximately 240 hours)
  • Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) audio compression to enable CD-quality sound with NTT DoCoMo's i-motion video clip distribution service
