Mepps Aglia dressed spinners

Mepps dressed Aglia spinners come in sizes #00 through #5. A #00 is a Mepps Ultra Lite and it weighs only 1/18 oz. These little trout and panfish lures are dressed with natural hackle. They are also available as wooly worms. The #0 Aglia Spin Fly is also a Wooly Worm. It too is perfect for both panfish and trout and weighs 1/12 oz. Larger dressed Aglias weigh up to 1/2 oz. (#5). The hooks on dressed Aglias in sizes #1-#5 are dressed with natural squirrel tail or bucktail.

Lure size is important. The general rule of thumb is use smaller lures to catch smaller fish and larger lures to catch larger fish.

    Smallmouth Bass Walleye

Dressed Aglias (Ultra Lites and Wooly Worms) in size #00 or #0 are perfect for panfish (bluegills or sunfish) and small stream trout. They are very light, however, and require a nimble rod, equipped with a light action reel spooled with light line; nothing heavier than six-pound-test. Two-pound-test to four-pound-test is better. Dressed Aglias in size #1 and #2 are perfect for larger stream trout and large bluegills, sunfish and crappies. Size #2 Aglias are also excellent for smallmouth bass and walleye.

Use #3 & #4 dressed Aglias for Largemouth Bass
    Largemouth Bass

Mepps Aglias in sizes #3 and #4 are preferred by largemouth bass fishermen. In fact, the #3 dressed Mepps Aglia was rated the best all around lure for largemouth bass by the readers of Sports Afield magazine.

Use #4 & #5 dressed Aglias for Northern Pike and Musky
    Northern Pike Musky

Size #4 and #5 Aglias are ideal for large rainbow trout and steelhead, as well as coho (silver) and chinook (king) salmon. Northern pike and giant tackle busting musky will inhale a dressed #5 Mepps spinner.

Now folks I've been fishing with Mepps Spinners since the early 1960's and they catch fish. I brag on My Mepps Spinners because they work. If you need one either call Shep or call me because my tackle box is full of 'em and that is what's on my line. Mepps Spinners catch fish that is all there is to know.

I suppose I'm violating the cardinal rule of fishing - never divulge the secret weapon. However, the secret to outfishing your friends is the #3 Red/White with brown bucktail. That lure has never failed me when the fish are biting at all. I've caught bass, northern pike and even a couple walleyes! Its my lure of choice.

I've been using an in-line spinner for about 5 years now and every time I go out fishing, I out-fish anybody out there by so much that they go and get a spinner the next day. As a matter of fact, I only have 1 out of 3 hooks left on my spinner because I've caught so many fish on it. The fish just can't resist a Mepps spinner.

Ever since I was 12 years old, I have been using the number 4 dressed aglia spinner with a silver spinner and a white tail. It does wonders in residential ponds and in streams. If there is fish in the stream or pond you can bet your bottom dollar they will hit that lure. My buddies and I always have fish offs and I seem to always win no matter if we are doing it by weight or fish number because the big and small always hit this lure. I have caught my biggest bass with this lure and it weighed in at 5 pounds 5 onces on a brand new electronic Rainbo scale. I have not tried this lure out in the open on big lakes but I plan to this summer and I can depend on the same results that have got in the residential ponds and streams.
