Another Lineman Whittle Visiting With Buffalo Bills by Chris Brown, Lead Journalist Last Updated: 3/2/2007 12:40 PM ET Minnesota free agent offensive lineman Jason Whittle is paying Buffalo a visit today. The 10-year veteran interior lineman spent last season with the Vikings serving primarily as a backup center, starting two games for Minnesota in 2006. He has experience playing at both guard positions as well as the pivot and has served as a long snapper. The versatile lineman has appeared in 125 games in his career with 42 starts. Whittle (6'4", 305) spent seven of his previous nine NFL seasons with the Giants (1998-2002, 2004-2005) and was part of the club's Super Bowl team in 2000 that faced Baltimore in Super Bowl XXXV. He was originally a rookie free agent signing of the Giants in 1998. It's possible that Bills offensive line coach Jim McNally had some input in targeting Whittle in free agency as he coached him while a member of the New York Giants coaching staff from 1999-2003. If signed he'd provide a veteran presence to the interior and would likely compete and push young interior players like Duke Preston and Aaron Merz. |
