Betting preview: Liverpool

Thinking of having a bet on the Liverpool game? MUTV’s Mark Pearson can point you in the right direction...

At around quarter to three on Saturday afternoon Manchester United could have one hand on the Premiership trophy and edge ever closer to their first title in four years.

This match would still be a huge occasion even if both United and Liverpool were in the Conference because of the bitter rivalry between the pair and Saturday lunchtime's clash at Anfield will be as intense as ever.

Liverpool will be on a high after defeating the European and Spanish Champions Barcelona last week but I don't expect them to beat the English Champions elect. Punters will point to the Merseysiders unbeaten record at Anfield that now stretches to 30 league games, but they’ve only hosted Chelsea from the top four. Of course they won that game 2-0 and that’s the only time I’ve cheered a Liverpool goal! But I'll be backing United to win at 6/4.

As for the correct score, they’ve been tight affairs at Anfield of late but I'm going for a 2-1 win to United at odds of 10/1. And scoring the first goal on Saturday will be Ryan Giggs, who celebrates his 700th appearance for the Reds. Giggs is 11/1 to score first and I'll also be backing him to score anytime at odds 3/1. The modest winger won’t want any fuss but he can cap another milestone with a goal.

If you place at least a £5 bet via www.manutd.com/bet you will go into a draw to win a signed United shirt. There’s also another special offer this week - if there is a sending off in Saturday’s fixture all losing correct score, first/last goalscorer and scorecast single bets will be refunded.

Good luck if you’re having a bet.
