 | | NEWS STORY | CARRAGHER: PAISLEY DESERVES A KNIGHTHOOD Mark Platt 02 March 2007 | | Jamie Carragher has thrown his weight behind the campaign for former Liverpool boss Bob Paisley to be honoured with a posthumous knighthood. | Almost 23,000 names have now been added to an on-line petition that has been registered with the Prime Minister's website. Carragher may have grown up as an Evertonian but he's well aware of Paisley's achievements during a glittering nine-year spell in the Anfield hot-seat and was only too pleased to pledge his support. "I was never fortunate enough to play under Bob Paisley, but everyone at Anfield knows what a great manager and a great man he was," says the Reds vice-captain. "You only have to look at his record as a manager to realise that he was up there with the best ? three European Cups speaks for itself. "He probably wasn't one for personal accolades, because by all accounts he was very humble, but if there is any possibility of him being knighted then it should happen."
