  About Apalone spinifera emoryi
  Description: Carapace olive to light brown with black-bordered spots and pale line around rim of shell, conspicuously wider along rear of shell. White tubercles on rear of carapace.
  Breeding: Lays 4-32 eggs in a cavity in a sand bank from May to August. May lay for than one clutch per year. Hatchlings emerge in late summer to fall, or the following spring.
  Habitat: Small marshy streams and ponds, lakes and fast moving rivers with sandy banks.
  Natural History: Aquatic and extremely wary. Basks on sand banks close to water's edge, in on rocks, logs and woodland debris which is in the water itself. Feeds on crayfish, amphibians and fish.
