Mega Millions Jackpot Hits $275 Million

Before midnight Friday, someone in the United States could be $275 million richer.
Mega Millions, the multi-state $1 lottery, has a pot worth $275 million dollars. If the prize goes unclaimed, it grows to a record $340 million, the Boston Herald reported Friday.
The lucky winner will have to pick between a lump-sum payment of $163 million or take 26 payments of $10.5 million a year.
The winning numbers will be picked at 11 p.m. Friday in Atlanta and broadcast on local news stations. Results will be posted on www.megamillions.com by 11:20 p.m., the Herald reported.
The jackpot has rolled over 14 times in a row. The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately 1 in 176 million. Mega Millions tickets are sold in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Georgia, Illinois, Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, Washington, Texas and California.
