Books Criticize President Bush
Several books now in bookstores are critical of President George Bush and his administration. Bob Woodward's latest book, Plan of Attack, provides insight into the administration's decision to go to war. Terrorism expert Richard A. Clarke?s book, Against All Enemies: Inside America's War on Terror, is critical of President Bush's approach to terrorism before 9/11. And Ron Suskind's book The Price of Loyalty: George W. Bush, the White House, and the Education of Paul O?Neill, tells how the former treasury secretary Paul O'Neill disagreed with President Bush and how he came to be fired.

Lemony Snicket's Unfortunate Popularity
One would hope that people would read other books, but apparently children and adults insist on reading the depressing, miserable books authored by the mysterious Lemony Snicket. The popularity of Lemony Snicket is soaring as the Dec. 17, 2004 release of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, approaches. The movie is a feature film by Paramount, Nickelodeon Movies and DreamWorks based on the bestselling children's book series and starring Jim Carrey. The movie will probably turn out to be a miserable time for unfortunate Lemony Snicket fans, but if the book sales are any indication the movie will be very popular.

Big Advance for New Dune Novels
Kevin J. Anderson and his writing partner, Brian Herbert, have been awarded what is rumored to be the largest advance on a single science fiction contract for the next series of Dune novels. The deal includes the two-volume grand climax to the Dune chronicles, based directly on the Dune 7 outline written by creator Frank Herbert, as well as The Road to Dune, a compendium of never-before-published chapters from Dune and Dune Messiah, plus original stories and a short novel written by Anderson and Brian Herbert. Frank Herbert's classic Dune is the bestselling science fiction novel of all time. When Herbert died in 1986, he left his Dune Chronicles uncompleted -- in fact, the last published novel, Chapterhouse Dune, ends on a cliffhanger. Before he died, he placed his last outline in a safe deposit box. Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson will now be completing the story that fans have waited 18 years to read.
