Fleeing Car Collides With School Bus

DOUGLASTON, N.Y. -- Four special-education children and an adult were seriously injured Tuesday afternoon after an SUV, possibly fleeing police, collided with a mini-school bus in Douglaston, Queens, according to police and the Department of Education.
According to the Department of Education, a police car hit into the back of an SUV, which then collided with the school bus from the Lowell School, a private, special-education school.
There were 10 passengers on the bus: eight special-education children, a driver and an escort, according to the DOE. The escort was seriously injured.Police said the SUV was fleeing police after a burglary. The collision happened just after 2:30 p.m.Those seriously injured were taken to North Shore Medical Center. Those with less severe injuries were taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center.None of the injuries appear to be life threatening.
