Beyond-Visual-Range Air-To-Air Missile
METEOR is a highly flexible, long-range, agile, air-to-air weapon system that provides a comprehensive operational capability in the most complex combat scenarios.
The missile can engage air targets autonomously (whether fighters, bombers, transport aircraft, AWACS or cruise missiles) by using its active radar seeker by day or night, in all weather and in dense electronic warfare environments.
METEOR’s ramjet propulsion system provides no escape zones in excess of 100 km and speeds of more than Mach 4. Even when launched from extreme stand-off ranges, the missile has the energy in the end game to defeat fast and manoeuvring targets. To ensure total target destruction, the missile is equipped with both proximity and impact fuses and a fragmentation warhead that is detonated at the optimum point to maximise lethality.
The system is compatible with Eurofighter Typhoon, Rafale and Gripen and with other contemporary advanced fighter aircraft.
The METEOR team comprises Europe’s leading guided weapons companies: MBDA, INMIZE and Saab Bofors Dynamics. Boeing also joined the team in October 1999, thereby widening the export potential of the missile.
