Update Regarding Sony Battery Pack Replacement Program

January 30, 2007 — As previously announced, Fujitsu Limited and various Fujitsu Group companies and affiliates have been offering a voluntary replacement program for Sony-made battery packs in specified Fujitsu notebook PC models since last October. To date, however, many individual users with battery packs subject to the replacement program have not yet applied. We would once again encourage customers to confirm whether their Fujitsu notebook PCs are subject to the program and, if affected, apply for replacement of the battery pack as soon as possible.

At the end of last year we received a report of an incident outside Japan involving a battery pack in a Fujitsu Group affiliate's notebook PC subject to the voluntary replacement program. Upon receiving the incident report from our local affiliate company, we immediately launched an investigation in cooperation with Sony. To date, the results of this investigation suggest that the cause of the incident was related to Sonyâ??s battery cell, and the potential emergence of similar incidents is extremely low.

Nevertheless, we would once again like to inform our customers of how to identify whether their notebook PC is subject to the voluntary battery pack replacement program, as well as to call their attention to certain safety precautions. Please see below for details.

How to Identify PCs Subject to Voluntary Battery Pack Replacement Program

First, please check whether the model name of your notebook PC (shown on the label on the bottom of your computer) is listed in the tables below.

*Battery packs made by vendors other than Sony may be installed in these models. Please check the P/N as explained below.

Next, if your model is listed above, check the part number (P/N) and lot number of the installed battery pack. The tables below list the P/N and lot numbers of the battery packs that may be subject to the program. The tables cover all affected batteries, but not all batteries within the range of the lot numbers may be affected. If your battery's P/N and lot number are not in the table, your battery is not subject to the program. If you have a battery accessory, please also check its P/N and lot number. Note: Second digit of the Lot Number is one of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,X,Y,Z in this order.

*Please note that, based on new information received from Sony, 200 additional battery packs for FMV-BIBLO LOOX P Series / FMV-LIFEBOOK P Series with P/N number CP229721-01 and lot number 6105 have been added to the list of battery packs subject to the program. Customers with these batteries who may have tried to register for the exchange program using the online tool on our website before are advised to do so again. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Instructions for Safe Use

If an affected battery pack is installed in your computer, please refer to the precautions listed in the user's manual and in particular take the following precautions until your battery pack is replaced with new one:

• Unless absolutely necessary, use your computer with the battery pack removed.
  - Shut down your computer, disconnect the AC adapter and then remove the battery pack. Connect the AC adapter again to use your computer.
• If you must use your computer with the battery pack installed, please pay attention to the following:
  - Do not use simultaneously with the AC adapter; disconnect the AC adapter if using battery power.
  - Use your computer under normal ambient temperatures.
  - When using your computer, do not place it on heat-retaining materials, such as a towel, carpet, or sofa. Never use your computer on electrically heated surfaces.
• When recharging your battery, never leave your computer unattended.

Please be advised that due to the large number of Sony-made battery packs being replaced by various PC vendors, replacement battery packs may not be immediately available in every region. Please refer to regional customer contacts below for further information.
