About English Regions - Andy Griffee

Andy Griffee, Controller, English Regions

BBC English Regions are responsible for all non-networked television, text and radio output in England as well as the BBC's local websites covering the English Regions.

The best known output is the daily regional news programmes such as Look North and Points West, and Local Radio stations like BBC Radio Newcastle and BBC Radio Solent.

The English Regions also produce regional aspects of the Politics Show, and Inside Out on BBC1, as well as the regional pages on Ceefax and digital text.

42 Where I Live websites cover the whole of England, providing a range of information and entertainment features about local issues.

BBC News Interactive has teamed up with BBC English Regions to maintain teams of journalists in each of the English regional centres, providing the news content for both the local Where I Live websites and the News Interactive site.

71% of the BBC?s domestic output hours are produced by the BBC English Regions, for about 7% of the licence fee.

There are twelve regions, each of which has a regional head, who report to Andy Griffee, Controller English Regions, based in Birmingham.

For further information about the English Regions, or to comment on the output overall, e-mail english.enquiries@bbc.co.uk.
