Sin City Flicks and My Very Vegas Year

Sal Masekela, Clinton Sparks, Michelle Trachtenberg, Charlie Pinto, Ben Lyons

Heads up, partygoers: As you may have heard, Daily 10 cohost Sal Masekela, deejay Clinton Sparks and I are hosting parties and events each week at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Crazy!

Smashtime Saturdays with The D10, at the club Body English, officially kicked off in a big way this weekend. One of my favorite young actresses, Michelle Trachtenberg, came by and hung out in the deejay booth, as did NBA legend and ESPN correspondent Jalen Rose. (Check out my pic with him here.) And the incredible band Blaqk Audio [cq blaqk] set the party off with a live set.

Look for movie premieres, DVD releases and your favorite actors and actresses to be out in Vegas with The Daily 10 at the Hard Rock. In the meantime, let's count down the top Vegas movies of all time. Got one that didn't make the list? Let me know!

Swingers

5. Swingers:  Not really a Vegas movie in the traditional sense, but Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn did coin the phrase "Vegas, baby, Vegas!" Also, for a movie that cost around $250,000, it was pretty impressive they shot in an actual casino. Resourceful indie filmmaking at its finest.

4. 21:  This isn't out until Mar. 21, but it's already the talk of Sin City. Based on the true story of the MIT students who went to Vegas on the weekends and made millions counting cards, the film stars Kevin Spacey (who also produces), Kate Bosworth and friend of the Lyons Den Aaron Yoo. Bonus: It was shot in part at the Hard Rock.

3. Very Bad Things:  Another Jon Favreau film hits the list. When big Jon, Christian Slater and Jeremy Piven roll to Vegas with a crew for a bachelor party, bad things do happen. You'll never take a hooker to the bathroom again. Well, you shouldn't do that anyway.

2. Knocked Up:  Again, not really a Vegas movie, but it's hard to ignore mushrooms and Cirque du Soleil with Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen. That part of the film injects the movie with a much needed dose of energy and comedy. The yard stick drinks by the pool and the five types of chairs in the hotel room are great references for people who know their Vegas. Classic.

Ocean's 13

1. The Ocean's Movies:  The original one with the Rat Pack is fun because of the dated technology used to rob the casinos and the ridiculous way Sinatra & Co. treat every woman they meet. But the later installments of the series have reinvented Vegas cool and catapulted the star power of George, Brad, Don and Matt into another universe.

Hope to see you guys at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas each and every Saturday in 2008 for Smashtime Saturdays with The Daily 10. It's going down!

Fandango 5: Nic Nabs More Treasure

National Treasure: Book of Secrets

Happy New Year, everybody! After an impressive holiday run, Nic Cage and the second installment of National Treasure still sit atop the Fandango 5 (based on preshow ticket sales and featured on fandango.com's Fan Buzz Top 10 page).

It's amazing that an entire generation of kids only knows Cage as the treasure hunter or as Johnny Blaze from Ghost Rider, right? Raising Arizona, anybody? That same generation of kids is also losing its mind for Hannah Montana, as her 3-D concert film remains a favorite on our list.

Rounding out the 5 are two of my favorite films of 2007: I Am Legend and Juno. Also, Charlie Wilson's War is picking up steam after scoring tons of Golden Globe noms. That said, welcome to 2008, errrybody! I hope you guys continue to use Fandango in the new year and check back with the Lyons Den every Thursday for the top movies in the country. Peace!

Hot Clip! Globes Nom Highs & Lows

Categories: video, golden globes

Okay, been up since 2:30 a.m. covering the Golden Globe noms for E!, so let's wrap it up. Check the video for my complete take and know that I'm definitely excited for Denzel Washington, whose American Gangster and The Great Debaters both received noms.

But what happened to Knocked Up and Into the Wild? The fact that Sean Penn and Emile Hirsch didn't get nominated seriously discredits these awards. Anyway, congrats to all the nominees, and I gotta get some sleep…
