International Radio The International Radio Story Clear Channel and its joint venture partners operate more than 240 radio stations in Australia, Mexico and New Zealand programming 20 different formats with more than 17 million listeners weekly and a total of more than 2,000 employees. In Australia, Clear Channel joins with Sydney based APN News and Media. The radio operation, known as the Australian Radio Network or ARN has 12 stations operating in six cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth. ARN serves its listening audiences, advertising customers and communities of license by specializing in programming to the adult audience between the ages of 25-54 who are the biggest spenders in the Australian economy. The two principal formats which ARN produces are Mix and Classic Hits. Mix is a bright adult contemporary presentation of songs from the 80’s, 90’s and now. Classic Hits features Classic Rock songs and pop rock from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. APN News and Media is also Clear Channel’s joint venture partner in New Zealand where The Radio Network or TRN operates 117 stations in 26 markets across the nation. Some of the TRN formats include News/Talk, Classic Hits, Classic Rock (Hauraki), Rap and Hip Hop, Soft Adult Contemporary, Sport, Contemporary Hits and Adult Standards. TRN has significant presence in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington, the three largest cities in New Zealand. In Mexico, Clear Channel partners with the Ibarra family with 110 stations in 41 markets. The company, known as Grupo Acir, has a presence in nine of the top 10 markets in Mexico including seven stations in Mexico City, the world’s largest city. In addition to the company owned and operated stations, Grupo Acir distributes its national news program, Panorama Informativo, to 45 non-owned radio stations. Grupo Acir programs a variety of formats including Spanish Hits, Regional Mexican, Romantic, English Hot Adult Contemporary, Spanish Oldies, News/Talk, female oriented talk and Mariachi. In April 2004, Grupo Acir launched Mexico City’s first full service traffic network called Radio Tráfico Total which delivers traffic and other service features such as weather forecasts to millions of commuters throughout every day across all of its Mexico City stations and eight other Mexican markets as of 2006 . Over the years, Clear Channel International Radio has had operations in a variety of countries and with an assortment of joint venture partners such as Norway, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Singapore, China, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Clear Channel is no longer in these countries having either sold operations back to partners sold to third parties or exited sales agreements.
