The results of the Winter Styling Contest are in:

Winter Winner

Here is her winning entry:

This winter holiday tip could be used for any hair length. I started doing the first part of this tip last year. I take a dollop of Sunsilk Hydra TLC Masque (which I adore) and add two drops of peppermint essential oil to it, mix together in my palm and apply to my hair. I then work it through my hair and concentrate on massaging my scalp. The peppermint oil makes my scalp feel wonderfully tingly, and it helps dry hair and scalp to boot. After rinsing, if I am headed out to a holiday party or night on the town, I have a special bottle of Sunsilk Winter Collection Anti-Static Mist that I have added some silver and gold glitter to. I spray that on my hair and get the great anti fly-away protection of Sunsilk and some festive glitter as well! Thanks Sunsilk!

I thought is what the most practical, playful and magical! (i mean seriously, Glitter? It may not have worked for Mariah Carey’s movie career, but it SO worked for this contest!!!!)

WAY TO GO SARAH!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR AND CONGRATS!!!!

That’s Crafty!

Have you heard of Etsy? It’s an online marketplace for buying & selling all things handmade. Their mission is to enable people to make a living making things, and to reconnect makers with buyers.

How freaking great is that?!

My friend’s store, Pretty in Pies, is one of over 100,000 sellers from around the world that makes up the Etsy family that was founded in 2005.

Pretty in Pies is a joint venture between my friend and one of her friends. My friend-girl makes fun, girly, retro inspired ONE-OF-A-KIND aprons and her friend makes delicious, homemade, award winning pies.

MULTI-DOT
I picked this one because it reminded me of the Sunsilk original commercials…

Other great Esty Shops I loved were Kimonos by Samantha Sultana, Costumes by Ms. Dress Up1, DESIGN YOUR OWN Headbands by The Candy Thief, and the fabulous earrings from Stella Designs.

Help support by purchasing or put your talents to work and become a part of Etsy’s vision of building a new economy and presenting a better choice by Buying, Selling, and Living Handmade.

…of course I’m talking about being a part of the Peanut Butter of the Month Club and NOT of being on the cover of Maxim or working those fabulous bangs.

…Did they just say Raspberry White Chocolate Peanut Butter?

There’s also Coffee of the Month, Chocolate of the Month, Cookie of the Month, Fudge of the Month, Salsa of the Month… there’s also a Bacon of the Month club!!!!

My Q and your A!

I did a super quick Christmas survey over on Myspace and here are some of the results:

What was your favorite gift you’ve ever received?

-Star Wars Death Star Space Station Action Set.

-My Tiffany Necklace

-A 39inch flatscreen HDTV

-Sort of a tie: My husband, (back when we were dating) took a view binder and made a collage cover for it with magazine clippings and things he’d drawn. It was so thoughtful and cute! The other was a gift I got from a former colleague. I thought she hated me, but she took these clear dessert sized plates and used glass paints to paint Jack and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas on them! It was very thoughtful since that is my very favorite movie! I still have them, and they are probably one of my most favorite things.

-When my husband asked me to marry him!

-The best gift I ever received was when my parents were alive and we all (including both of my children) would spend it together.

What is the worst/strangest/most unusual gift you’ve ever received?

-Unusual: Chuck Berry’s 45 of “My Ding-A-Ling.”

-Worst/strangest gift: My mom was going through mid life crisis in the 80’s and the dove soap, campbell’s soup and starkist tuna in the cupboard was wrapped and under the tree on Christmas day. Not festive at all. Also, 3 years ago, my mom went through a fruit cake, socks and perfume/cologned phase. oh mom.

-Worst gift was a silver lantern. The kind of lantern that was used befor the lightbulb was invented. Until this day I have never understood why I that gift was given to me. The following year I gave it to sombody else……

-Probably the worst gift I ever got was a pair of knee high rainbow toe socks from my grandmother one year.

Worst/Strangest/Most unusal: “nuts and bolts” from my mother~in~law

-The worst gift I ever received was people who claimed we were family but when they found out they couldn’t get their hands on my disability check they put me and my daughter in the streets.

What’s your favorite gift you’ve ever given?

-Isqueeze foot massager

-My sister and I gave my mom a new fridge.

-A warm coat and barbie doll & barbie clothes to a little girl from The Angel Tree.

-My favorite gift is that I broke down and bought myself a 3 quarter carat Tanzanite and diamond ring.

Do YOU guys have a favorite or worst gift you ever received?
Let’s here about it!

Doing my last minute shopping (which I love, it SO gets me in the Christmas Spirit) I am realizing that a lot of my favorite stores that I ALWAYS find the perfect gift at, are total misses this year.

SABOTAGE!

Nordstrom was alright, Lemon Tree Bungalow was fine, Anthropologie was useless, Banana Republic.com was boring (usually I love their jewelry), Gap was full of a bunch of nothing (usually they have great scarves that make the perfect gifts) Oilily might as well have stayed closed… on one hand, I hate it because they all usually rock my world but on the other hand now I get to take a day and find new stores and hopefully even better gifts.

Do you have any suggestions?

…besides shopping earlier in the year…

IMperfect

One of my FAVORITE friend-girls, Alex, started a new website entitled: Imperfect10.com. It’s her “obsession to help you will find laughs and insights that will help you on your journey to a healthy outlook on body image.”

This month and next month I am featured in the “Hmmm, That’s Queer” section discussing Style, Life and what it’s like to be an Imperfect 10 in today’s world and how I feel women can help lose the “I’m” in Imperfect.

There are also fabulous pages including Body Language, the Tragically Lazy Foodie section (Where you can submit recipes) and you can even contact her to be a part of the site!!! Check it out!

The Golden Kidman

This past weekend I saw The Golden Compass starring Nicole Kidman:

goldencompass1

Overall, she was great and the movie was amazing (Think Lord of the Rings for girls) and “overall” I love everything she does even though I couldn’t get through The Human Stain, Fur or Bewitched and somehow I didn’t walk out of Margot at the Wedding, The Stepford Wives and The Invasion. Miss Kidman WAS brilliant in Birth, The Hours and The Others and my favorite movies EVER she was in were: Moulin Rouge, To Die For and BMX Bandits, so here are a few looks of her from both the Red Carpet and the Silver Screen that I adore and that inspire me and simply shock me how she can work any look:

Straightened Suit

The Human Stain

satine

N Paper Boy hat

Gucci Smile

N gold Headband

N Fur

N Black Fringe

Birth
