Cadbury Eclairs/Choclairs

"Discover the chocolate secret centre"

Cadbury Eclair logo

The unique experience of pure caramel yielding to rich Cadbury's chocolate has continued to make Cadbury Eclairs/ Choclairs stand out against all rivals. The unfolding of flavours as the caramel and Cadbury's chocolate combine, gives a truly special taste sensation. Combining two classic ingredients of toffee and chocolate, the outside layer of creamy caramel coats and protects the taste inside of Cadbury's chocolate. Today this brand is one of Cadbury's top brands, and its second largest brand in terms of size.

How Cadbury Eclairs/Choclairs came about

Chocolate Eclairs were first introduced in London by Pascalls, a local firm of confectioners, in the 1960s. The family run business was founded by James Pascall to manufacturer and sell predominantly sugar confectionery. The product was developed as an oval toffee with the best quality chocolate in the centre. It was available in a roll pack or as singles by the quarter and eaten as a family treat. The roll pack, with 11 pieces, sold for 4 pence and was seen as excellent value.

Pascalls became part of the Cadbury organisation in 1971, making it then the second largest brand in the company. The chocolate centre was changed to be the best Cadbury chocolate and marketed as Cadbury Eclairs rather Cadbury Chocolate Eclairs. The brand was advertised nationally for the first time, focusing on a family target with the theme "You'll love the bit in the middle".
