How Cadbury Eclairs/Choclairs came about Chocolate Eclairs were first introduced in London by Pascalls, a local firm of confectioners, in the 1960s. The family run business was founded by James Pascall to manufacturer and sell predominantly sugar confectionery. The product was developed as an oval toffee with the best quality chocolate in the centre. It was available in a roll pack or as singles by the quarter and eaten as a family treat. The roll pack, with 11 pieces, sold for 4 pence and was seen as excellent value. Pascalls became part of the Cadbury organisation in 1971, making it then the second largest brand in the company. The chocolate centre was changed to be the best Cadbury chocolate and marketed as Cadbury Eclairs rather Cadbury Chocolate Eclairs. The brand was advertised nationally for the first time, focusing on a family target with the theme "You'll love the bit in the middle". Milestones 1960s Chocolate Eclairs are launched by local London confectioner James Pascall. 1971 Pascalls is bought by Cadbury's, with Eclairs becoming the second largest brand in the company. 1974 Brand is launched nationally in the UK as Cadbury Eclairs. 1980-96 Cadbury Eclairs becomes an international brand. 1999 After improving the product, the brand is re-launched as Cadbury Choclairs in some markets.
