| Welcome to the official K2 Bike 2005 Tour de Vashon. It is a well-known fact that Vashon Island has been the "World Headquarters" for K2 Skis for over 40 years, but Vashon Island has a big secret it has been hiding. It is also Vashon Island's destiny to become known as the center of the known cycling universe. This Tour de Vashon will show you the Island's many perfect and peaceful places to ride and the bikes K2 has developed to explore this unique environment. Vashon Island is a small island (roughly 17 miles long by 1 to 3 miles wide) located in the heart of Puget Sound. Vashon is 4 miles SW from Seattle, 4 miles NW of Tacoma and 4 miles east of Port Orchard. The only way you can get here is on a ferry.
Vashon is better known for its strawberry fields, wineries, artists, and laidback lifestyle than for its diverse and incredibly perfect biking roads and trails. The roads that wind lazily through the island are punctuated with steep, twisty climbs and descents. Roads are narrow, but cars are few and usually driven by peaceful island folks. Mountain biking trails crisscross the island, and in many locations bike riders and horseback riders share the bounty of the trails and the incredible Mount Rainier and Olympic Mountain vistas.
