(JAN 30) On January 26th, on the ?Blood, Sweat and Guts?, card, that was  promoted by Silverhawk Boxing in association with Ron Remus Productions, at Destiny?s Nightclub of Orlando, Florida, Stevie ?Little but Bad? Johnston made won the vacant IBA Lightweight title by majority decision over Tyrone Harris. The judges scores were 114-114, 116-112, and 115-113.   Johnston is now 40-4-1 and Harris falls to 18-3.

  Williams and Echols even after '12'
January 16, 2007

On January 12th, despite point deductions for low blows in rounds seven and nine Super-Middleweight Rubin Williams held heavy handed Antwun Echols to a twelve round draw in their IBA World title fight this past Friday night at the 'Palace' in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Scores by the judges read 113-114 (Williams) 115-111 (Echols) while the third judge saw it even at 113-113. With more than 10,000 fans on hand a rematch seems likely.

  Bonsante dominates Vanda, takes
America's Title

On January 12th, Middleweight Anthony Bonsante scored his biggest win in nearly four years with his decisive win over rival Matt Vanda at the 'Target Center' in Minneapolis, Minnesota this past Friday night.  Bonsante won on all cards at 98-92 and 98-91 twice and now finds himself on a short list of opponents scheduled to meet IBA World Champion John Duddy on
Madison Squares Garden's ST. Patrick's Day show in March.

The 'Palace' in Auburn Hills, Michigan plays host to Super-Middleweights Rubin Williams and Antwun Echols when they meet for the vacant IBA World Belt January 12th. Also on the same date in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Middleweights Matt Vanda and Anthony Bonsante take their long standing grudge to the ring when they meet for the vacant IBA America's title.

(DEC 14) At the Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino, in Hallandale, Florida, Berry Butler and Sam Reese traded knockdowns in a wild opening two rounds before Butler emerged the winner by unanimous decision in the first round of the IBA America's Light heavyweight Championship.  Butler found himself on the deck in the opening round but turned the the tables on Reese with two knockdowns in round two.   IBA releases Castaneda
December 7, 2006

(DEC 7) Following his ten round non-title loss to rated contender Demetrius Hopkins the International Boxing Association has withdrawn title recognition from Champion Rogelio Castaneda.  Castaneda won his title by decision against Tomas Barrientes and recorded knockout wins over Ernesto Zepeda and Craig
Weber in his two successful title defenses.  The IBA thanks Mr. Castaneda for his contribution to betterment of the organization and wishes him much success in the future.  Thank you Rogelio.

Zikov still Unbeaten, wins America's
Welterweight Title

(NOV 29) At the 'Sports Palace' in Kazan, Russia this past Saturday night,Vladimir Zikov (Zee-Kov) pitched a near shut-out against tough Mexican Jose Juan Bermejo (20-3-2) winning by TKO when Bermejo could not continue after round ten. Bermejo had his moments but it was the unbeaten Zikov who controlled the tempo from start to finish leading on all cards by scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 100-90 when Bermejo's corner called a halt to the action.  Zikov improves to 18-0-4KO's.Promoter:  Rinat Yusupov  Attendance: 3,000+

Daniel ?The Sandman? Maldonado, 20-2 (13), edged Jose ?The Terminator? Gonzales by split decision, 116-111, 114-113, and 111-116 to take the IBA featherweight title last night at The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The Kentuckian Maldonado was floored in round five but came on strong in the final third of the fight to squeeze out the win. 15 Rounds saw the fight 114-113 for Gonzales.

(NOV 6) On Saturday night at the Coushatta Casino and Resort, in Kinder, Louisiana, Brian Vera (168lbs) of Austin Texas, became the new IBA Continental Super Middleweight Champion by TKO over Etienne Whitaker (166) of Warren Ohio.

Baldomir loses in Vegas
(NOV 5) At the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino Floyd Mayweather JR. scored a wide points win over defending IBA World Welterweight Champion Carlos Baldomir by scores of 120-108 twice and 118-110.  With Baldomir's loss the IBA title is now vacated.

(NOV 5) Cecilio Santos is the new IBA World Bantamweight
Champion.  Santos pitched a near shut-out against game late replacement Alex 'Ali' Baba at the Miccosukee Resort and Gaming Casino in Miami, Florida on October 27th.  Promoter:  Tuto Zabala JR.

De Leon Wins IBA Title!

(OCT 22) Last night at the Don Haskins Arena in El Paso, Texas, on the HBO PPV card, Daniel Ponce De Leon won by an 1:43 seconds, eighth round TKO over Al Seeger.  De Leon improved to 30-1, scoring the 28th early stoppage of his boxing career. De Leon won the IBA Jr. Featherweight world title belt.

(OCT 14) At the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida former 2-time World Champion Randall Bailey won his sixth straight bout, stopping New Mexico's Shawn Gallegos while taking home the IBA Continental Jr. Welterweight title.  Gallegos, a late substitute for Cesar Bazan, tried to trade punches with the heavy handed Bailey and paid the price. With Bailey landing punches at will  referee Tommy Kimmons stopped the one sided bout at 1:55 of round eight, improving Baileys record to 34-5-1 with 31 KO's..  Promoter:  Warriors Boxing

Last night in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in front of a packed house of over 2,500, Holly Holm, 140,  successfully defended her IBA Jr. Welterweight title, against Jane Couch, 140, of the UK.  The judges scores were 100-90 on all cards.  The card was promoted by Fresquez Productions, Inc.

Bobby Gunn (16-2, 13 ko?s) won the vacant IBA World Cruiserweight Title Saturday at the LCO Casino in Hayward, WI. The main event featured Gunn who realized his dream, with a decisive win over Shannon Landberg, now 58-12-3, 26ko?s, in the 7th round. Referee Steve Smoger the third man in the ring, lived up to his World Class reputation and controlled the action from the opening bell allowing the ?fighters to fight,? while delivering a fair and exciting title match to the world.  Full Story

  IBA vacates Light-Heavyweight

(SEPT 12) With his recent loss to IBF Champion Light-Heavyweight Clinton Woods the IBA has vacated the title formerly held Glen Johnson.  Johnson shall enter the IBA World Ratings in October as a contender and is still eligible to compete for IBA honors in the future.

At the Staples Center in Los Angeles California Nigerian Samuel Peter became the new IBA Heavyweight World Champion by defeating defending champion James Toney by split decision in a closley contested contest this past Saturday night. Two judges preferred the heavier punches of Peter (116-111 - twice) while the third saw the ring generalship of Toney as the deciding factor
(115-112) in the fight.

Dean Chance Leaves Nothing To Chance

As a baseball player, Dean Chance was a hard-throwing, right-handed starting pitcher with an unorthodox twisting windup. The Wooster, Ohio, native was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 1960 when he was only 19-years-old. Although he never became a consistently dominating pitcher, Chance had an illustrious career that was highlighted by him winning the American League Cy Young Award in 1964 when he was only 23. more on the sweetscience.com

Patrick Nwamu won his eleventh straight fight to improve to 12 wins against one loss while winning the IBA World Super-Cruiserweight title with a third round kayo of John Battle at New York's Madison Square Garden this past Saturday night.
