Alpine Skiing : Gruber quickest, women's cancelled

Austria's Christoph Gruber set the fastest second downhill training time at Bormio ahead of the compatriot Fritz Strobl and Finlay Mickel of the UK. Meanwhile, in Santa Caterina the women's downhill training session was cancelled due to poor visibility caused by low cloud levels and light snow fall.

 

Alpine Skiing : Miller, Strobl disqualified

Bode Miller of the United States and Austria's Fritz Strobl were among several leading skiers to be disqualified from the first men's downhill training run at the world championships on Monday.

Alpine Skiing : Kildow crashes, Austrians quickest

Lindsey Kildow of the US was badly shaken but unscathed after a horror smash in during downhill training in Santa Caterina. Austria's Michaela Dorfmeister put her Super-G nightmare behind her to set the fastest time, while compatriot Fritz Strobl clocked the reference in Bormio for the men.

While in training for this months WC downhill at Bormio Eurosport caught up with Daron Rahlves to chat to him about the classic resort. The American talked us through the terrain and his prospects on the piste which will decide the men's World Championships downhill at Bormio on Saturday 5 February.

 

Alpine Skiing : Goetschl: "We had to take risks"

The women's Super-G on Sunday was plagued by errors and miscalculations from the hot favourites, most notably Renate Goetschl and Michaela Dorfmeister. Ahead of downhill training they told Eurosport just what went wrong.

 

Ski Jumping : Malysz double delights

Adam Malysz made it a memorable home double by taking Sunday's ski jumping event at Zakopane after two perfect 132 metre leaps. Finland's Janne Ahonen impressed after recent topsy form to finish second, while Saturday's joint-winner Roar Ljoekelsoey completed the podium in third.

 

Alpine Skiing : Kildow cites the big three

Austrian favourite Renate Goetschl faces a strong challenge from young American Lindsey Kildow in Sunday's world championship women's super-G race at Santa Caterina. The 20-year old from Vail told Eurosport that she targets a podium finish, but names Goetschl as the one to watch.

 

Alpine Skiing : Miller thriller

Bode Miller of the US ripped apart the icy Stelvio piste at Bormio to take gold in the men's Super-G ahead of Austrians Michael Walchhofer and Benjamin Raich. Miller finished in a time of 1:27.55, 0.14 and 0.68 seconds over his rivals. Austria's Hermann Maier finished in fourth, 0.85 off the pace.
