Schaeffler KG in Herzogenaurach, Germany, has presented a new generation of synchronizer rings with integrated friction linings under the motto “Individual yet still standard”. Instead of joining the friction lining to the entire surface of the carrier, the synchronizer ring, the new concept involves cutting the friction lining into single standardized friction elements that are guided by the synchronizer ring. This means that less friction material is required, overall weight is reduced and flexibility in terms of optimizing the friction effect for various applications is increased.
